Set underneath the verdant slopes of the stunning Usambara and Pare Eastern Arc Mountain Ranges and supervised by the iconic snow-crested peak of Kilimanjaro, MkomaziNational Park is virgin stunning excellence displaying unique natural fortunes. Mkomazi takes its name from a word from Pare tribe meaning "scoop of water", alluding to little water. Mkomazi is a significant asylum for two endangered species of wildlife. The black rhino and African wild dog both consider the park their home. The two species were introduced in the park during the 1990s. The rhinoceros are secured by and confined to a fenced territory while the African wild dogs are allowed to meander openly. They can be seen throughout the park. Mkomazi bolsters a few dry – nation species that are uncommon anywhere else in Tanzania; these incorporate the fringe-earededoryx, with its long back – clearing horns, and the attractive winding – horned lesser kudu. Strangest of all is the gerenuk, a gazelle recognized by its slim neck, peculiar outsider – like head, and having the propensity for standing tall on its rear legs as it extends for acacia leaves that different programs can't reach. It is a phenomenal destination for birdwatchers, with in excess of 450 avian species recorded, among them are the dry – nation endemics, for example, the cobalt – chested vulturine guinea-fowl, other huge ground birds, for example, ostrich, kori bustard, secretary winged creature, ground hornbill and some migratory species including the Eurasian roller.
The best time to visit Mokmazi National Park is during the dry season, i.e., from June to October when the wildlife viewing is at its prime

By Road: You can easily to Mkomazi by taking a car from any of the major cities of Tanzania. It is located northeastern Tanzania 120km from Moshi. While it is only 155km from Kilimanjaro International Airport, 200km from Arusha and 500km from Dar es salaam via the Same town.
By Air: You can also take a charter flight to reach the park’s Kisima airstrip.
