Covering an area of about 552 sq km, Arusha National Park is a multi-faceted jewel offering a great opportunity to explore a diverse variety of animals.

The park is topographically dynamic and is largely dominated by Mount Meru. The park is crowned with earth’s largest population of giraffes.

 The Wildlife

Arusha Nationa Park is home to some of the unique species of animals like the African elephant, Cape buffalo, hippo, zebra, giraffe, and even the shy wildebeest. Lion and leopards are common predators.

Blue monkeys, black and white colobus monkeys are quite found everywhere inside the park.

The canoeing safari in the fascinating park gives an up-close view of the water residing animals and land animals.

  • The presence of freshwater and alkaline water lakes attracts a huge number of water birds of Tanzania.
  • Though the park is small, nearly 400 species of birds can be found.
  • October to April offers the best time for bird watching in Arusha National Park.
  • The checklist of different species of the colourful and graceful birds include Hadada Ibis, Sacred Ibis, Greater Pink Flamingo, Lesser Pink Flamingo, Silver Cheeks Hornbill, African Fish Eagle, Augur Buzzard, Bar-tailed Trogon, Southern Carmine Bee-eater, Egyptian Goose, Spur-winged Goose, Red-billed Teal, Cape Teal, African Olive Pigeon, Crowned Eagle, Yellow-billed Stork, Saddle-billed Stork and many more.
